Karen Lynn LeCureux

Karen Lynn LeCureux, 69, of Onaway, departed this life for her heavenly home Monday, November 8, 2021. The daughter of Clyde and Thelma (Cunningham) Hyde, Karen was born in Cheboygan March 23, 1952. A lifelong resident of Onaway, Karen was a 1970 graduate of Onaway High School where she met her husband, Larry J. LeCureux. They began dating in 1968 and October 14, 1972 were married at the Onaway United Methodist Church.

Well-known in the community, Karen worked as a teller at the Onaway Community Federal Credit Union for many years before resigning to keep the books and manage her husband’s business, LeCureux Masonry. Eventually she and Larry opened the car wash in town where she did the bookkeeping and enjoyed visiting with customers that came to wash their vehicles.

Social and outgoing, Karen loved going out for lunch with her group of girlfriends. They weren’t hard to miss as they gathered around a table at one of the local restaurants, chattering, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.

Karen knitted, crocheted, and loved shopping for gifts for her family as well as any necessity. She and Larry enjoyed road trips to auctions and drove all over the state to look at tractors, especially John Deere tractors. In fact, Karen had her own John Deere AR which she was very proud of and was a member of the Tip of the Mitt Antique Tractor Association.

She enjoyed deer hunting, going out for dinner, and visiting with family, friends from the community, and her customers.

Karen’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife to Larry, adored her son, Scott, and her granddaughter, Ashley, was the apple of her eye. She was always there when needed,  put her family above all else, and beamed with pride when she spoke of them. Nurturing and caring, Karen was a second mother to Scott’s buddies and was Grandma to Ashley’s friends.  Karen and Larry were a great team; they worked well together in their businesses and were rarely seen without each other.

; Karen’s friendly disposition, her warm smile, and her love for her family and community will be sadly missed.

Surviving Karen is her husband of 49 years, Larry LeCureux of Onaway; a son, Scott LeCureux (Ingrid Bousho) also of Onaway; a  granddaughter, Ashley LeCureux (Steve Angeli) of Sault Ste. Marie; brothers, Larry (Carol) Hyde of Alabama and William “Bill” Hyde of Alpena; as well as her nieces, nephews, and many friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara Badder; and a brother, Claude Hyde.

A memorial service was held last week. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Karen to the Forest Waverly Fire Association or the Onaway Ambulance Equipment Fund.
