Robert “Rob” W. Stevenson

Robert “Rob” W. Stevenson, 50, of Lakewood, Colorado formerly of Onaway, died in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Wednesday, October 27, 2021.  Visitation was held at Chagnon Funeral Home until the time of the funeral service Monday, November 8, with Larry LaFave officiating.

Rob was born in Mount Clemens October 16, 1971, raised in Onaway, and graduated from Onaway High School in the class of 1989.  He married the love of his life, Sheila Garms, in Onaway September 18, 1993. They made their home in Onaway for a few years before moving to Colorado in 1999 where Rob furthered his education at Metropolitan State University in Denver. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering and was employed by Lockheed Martin Corporation where he was well-liked and respected by his co-workers. Rob thoroughly enjoyed his work designing and developing global positioning systems and had the unique experience of watching one of his satellites being launched into space. Besides his full-time job, Rob maintained his real estate license and sold properties in the greater Denver area.

An outdoor enthusiast with a zest for life, Rob absolutely loved living in Colorado. It was a perfect fit for his active lifestyle and doing all the things he, Sheila, and their sons enjoyed. Rob loved riding mountain bikes, hiking, and trail running at his favorite places including Waterton Canyon and Red Rocks.

Rob kayaked with Sheila, went dirt-biking with his sons, and played golf/fished. To clarify, one of the best places to fish for bass in Colorado was in the ponds at the golf courses so Rob always put his fishing pole in his golf bag.

Between holes he would fish, that is until “No Fishing” signs were posted! Very much in tune with health and fitness, Rob worked out in his home gym, hitting the heavy bag and lifting weights. He enjoyed going to the gun range for target practice and would spend hours playing with his dogs, Lucy and Lexi.

With his great sense of adventure, Rob was always ready to try something new. A few years ago he and Sheila decided to try downhill skiing and were hooked. They enjoyed many weekends skiing Vail and Breckenridge but also traveled to Canada and Park City on skiing vacations.  They loved to travel, making memories on family vacations and visiting Italy for their 25th wedding anniversary.  A fantastic coo

k (and baker), Rob would search the internet and Pinterest for new recipes.  His specialty was his delicious omelets but Rob would try his hand at preparing just about any dish. A great team, Rob and Sheila worked together on home improvement projects, landscaping, and yard work. When Sheila had a new idea for something at home, Rob would do his best to make it happen. He adored Sheila; the two were best friends and did everything together and for their family. An awesome dad, Rob was proud of his sons. He loved spending time with them and encouraged and supported them in all their endeavors.

Rob grew from a shy teenager into a confident, successful, outgoing man. He was intelligent, caring and friendly. He was well-loved by his family, an all around great guy, a good neighbor and a fantastic friend.  He lived life to the fullest each day, was happy, and loved deeply. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Sheila of Lakewood, Colorado; sons, Caleb of Littleton, Colorado and Cody of Lakewood, Colorado; mother and stepfather, DarLynn and Dan Moran of Onaway; brothers, Rich Stevenson (Melissa Clark) of Petoskey and Will (Diana) Moran of Traverse City; sisters, Jessica (Greg) Merchant of Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida and Amanda (Shawn) Wass of Onaway; stepbrother, Kirk (Cynthia) Damoth of Atlanta; stepsister, Cheryl (Bernie) Neilsen; stepmother, Linda Stevenson; and his in-laws, Victor Sr. and Sue Garms of Ocqueoc. Rob was preceded in death by his father, Terry Stevenson.
