Home schedule begins with first game on refurbished field

Thursday is a big day for the Hurons on their newly-redone field. With critters tearing up the grass on the old infield over the years making it unplayable, head coach Eric Brege and assistant Chuck Krueger spearheaded an effort to install new grass and infield dirt on the field. That caused the entire 2023 home schedule to be played on fields other than the Steven Schalk Memorial Field while repairs were made.

Now, after much patience and grooming by the coaches, the field is ready for its debut. That will happen with a ceremonial first pitch Thursday before the games with Posen. The results of their work make the field look like a Major League ballpark. Thursday’s games start at 4 p.m.

A ceremonial first pitch will be delivered by Gerhardt Schalk, father of the late Steven Schalk, the former RCHS Huron baseball player who the field is named after.
