US-23 improvement project crews might work Saturdays

Because of complications with the US-23 project within the city limits of Rogers City, construction crews from Cordes Excavating may begin working on Saturdays as early as this weekend. Ken Cordes said crews have encountered ?muck? in some areas which has slowed construction. The project in Rogers City includes widening of the road, as well as the installation of a storm sewer drain and curb and gutter.

Cordes is trying to wrap up work in Rogers City before the Nautical Festival, hence, the need for an extra work day. The US-23 project will continue south of Rogers City to the M-65 junction. The Advance will continue to update readers on the project every week.

Work this week and next includes:

? Installation of a 42-inch sewer pipe starting at Larke Avenue and proceeding south. By the end of the week crews were expected to be at Spruce Street.

? Road widening continues from M-68 southbound to F-41.

? The first half of ?nightcast? concrete was poured Tuesday afternoon on the Trout River bridge.

? Curb crews are expected to arrive in Rogers City next week.

? Huron Avenue and the entrance of Glen?s Plaza will continue to remain closed.
