Next game tonight after Tuesday cancelation

The Huron girls? basketball team got a break from playing another highly rated team as Tuesday?s game at Cedarville was canceled due to the weather. High winds and very cold temperatures would have made for a miserable bus ride for the teams as they crossed over the Mackinac Bridge.

Playing in Cedarville is no picnic either. Cedarville is rated number one in the latest Associated Press poll in Class D with a 7-0 record. They defeated Brimley, another U.P. powerhouse, in a close game last Friday. No makeup date has been announced.

MEANWHILE, THE Hurons had their hands full with Class B Sault Ste. Marie at the home court of the Blue Devils last Friday.

The Hurons (1-7), coming off their first win of the season last week, couldn?t keep the momentum going way up north. Rogers City had trouble with a full court press as the Soo took a 62-16 win

over the Hurons. A 23-3 lead after the first quarter turned into a 33-6 lead at halftime.

The Soo led 50-8 after three quarters as both coaches used their benches liberally. Anna Wickersham scored six, Logan Schuiteman scored five, Sara Carpenter had three and Leann Knopf added two as only four Hurons scored points in the contest.

THE J.V. (2-6) had its troubles at the Soo as it suffered a nearly identical loss at 65-16. Becky Talaske had 10 points to lead the Hurons in scoring. Amanda Smolinski scored three, Kelleigh Lamb had two and Shelby Schleben had a free throw for the only Huron points.

Rogers City is back in action as the teams host Cheboygan tonight (Thursday) and host Posen Monday. The girls host Newberry January 23 and play their next away game at Rudyard January 29.
