Ila Ann Mientkiewicz

Ila Ann Mientkiewicz, known to most as “Ann,” 77, of Onaway, died at Golden Beach Manor Friday, December 25, 2020. The only child of Alvin Daniel and Ila B. (Young) Storey, Ann was born in Saint Augustine, Florida, raised in Cleveland, Ohio, and eventually moved to Onaway in 1957. She married Stanley “Stosh” Mientkiewicz in Dearborn October 3, 1970.

A homemaker, wife, and mother, Ann also worked in an office for many years and later was employed by Boyne Resorts as a housekeeper. She sold Tupperware and enjoyed doing crafts, especially with plastic canvas. Quite active in the Onaway George C. Garms Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5857 Ladies Auxiliary, Ann often volunteered her time to help with VFW activities and enjoyed seeing her friends at the VFW Post. She had a deep Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway.    

Surviving Ann are her two sons, Walter (Tammy) Hoeft of Millersburg and Brad (Tina) Hoeft of Capac; six grandchildren, Riley (Jenni) Hoeft, Andy (Chelsea) Hoeft, Megan Hoeft, Michael Hoeft, Keri (Frank) Sheer and Holly Hoeft; as well as six great-grandchildren, Allie, Lyndsey, Easton, Brynley, Abigail and Kennedy; and her companion of nine years, Bernie Corpe of Gaylord.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Stanley Mientkiewicz in 2009; and her parents.

No services are planned as Ann will be honored by her family privately. Her final resting place will be at North Allis Township Cemetery. 

Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Ann to the Courtesy Club Food Pantry or the Onaway Ambulance Equipment Fund.  Cremation arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.
