Larry A. Dittmar
Larry A. Dittmar, 77, of Millersburg, died at home Sunday September 25, 2022. The son of Allen and Lorene (Karsten) Dittmar, he was born in Cheboygan January 12, 1945, raised in Millersburg, and graduated from Onaway High School in 1963.

Hardworking, Larry retired from his foreman’s position with the Presque Isle County Road Commission June 1, 2011 after 40 years of employment. He also worked as a farmer for most of his life as well as driving truck and school bus for a short time. He cared a great deal about his community, serving four decades on the Millersburg Village Council, acting as street commissioner, and with all the mowing he did in town, may have cut every blade of grass in Millersburg. Larry attended church at Millersburg Methodist Church.
After a long career with Presque Isle County and countless hours checking the roads, driving through the county was deeply ingrained in Larry. After his retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was going for rides through the county, still checking the roads and with his farming background, seeing what was going on at the local farms. He knew which farmers had their fields planted, who was cutting hay, and at the end of the season who was harvesting. Larry had an appreciation for all tractors but his favorite was orange – the Allis-Chalmers.
Well-known in the community, Larry was well-liked and loved to talk. He always had something interesting to share, including many “Larryisms,” such as, “Cut your own firewood, it will warm you twice!” And though he loved to talk, his actions spoke volumes of who he was. He showed people he loved them by what he did, rather than by what he said. He was always eager to help his family, neighbors, friends, and even strangers. He loved to feed people and often showed others he cared about them with food. He was known to bring dilly bars to the office as a treat for everyone and was always sending a food tray or cheese ball to someone.
Dedicated to his job, his community, and his family, Larry put his all into everything he did. He was devoted to his family, rarely missing a family party or a grandchild’s sporting event or school activity. He was active in the community, hardworking, and humble. Larry’s integrity, his selfless ways, and respect for others will be fondly remembered. He will be sadly missed by his sons, Tim Dittmar (Paula Werth) of Alpena and Don Dittmar (Heidi Wituc
Visitation was held at Chagnon Funeral Home Tuesday, September 27, from 4 – 8 p.m. with Larry’s funeral service Wednesday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Joy Community Church. The Rev. Carmen Cook officiated.
Larry’s final resting place is in Millersburg at Riverside Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Larry to the Millersburg Historical Society, P.O. Box 30, Millersburg, MI 49759.
