Kenneth “Ken” Edward Schwall

Kenneth “Ken” Edward Schwall, 79, of Greenback, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 14, 2025, in Maryville surrounded by family. Born in Detroit, Ken found his second home in Rogers City at age 12, while visiting friends in what would become his adopted hometown. In 1970 Ken moved his young family to Rogers City and worked as a disc jockey at WHAK Radio owned by Harvey Klann, who also influenced him to his Christian faith.

For 66 years, Ken returned to vacation in Rogers City every summer without fail. He loved sunsets at Seagull Point, ice cream at the pavilion and donuts from the local shop. He cherished visits with his many RC friends and time with family. Ken always kept his subscription to the Presque Isle County Advance to stay connected.

After leaving Rogers City for warmer weather in 1975, Ken continued in radio at WGAP in Maryville, Tennessee, where he played music, announced local high school sports and hosted a daily “Swap and S

hop” program. In 1978, Ken made his move into television as a news reporter at WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ken built a celebrated 36-year career and became well-known widely for his folksy reporting while finding and telling stories about unique people, places and things in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Ken’s greatest joy was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years, Corina; children, Robin Harbin (Brent), David Schwall (Greta) and Danny Schwall (Jesse); nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild born August 18.

A funeral service celebrating Ken’s life was held August 23 at Fairview Church in Maryville, Tennessee. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/KBFoP-Mdve4.
