No plans to hire police officer

At the Onaway City Commission meeting January 6, hiring a police officer to help out chief James Gibson was tabled, until a budget meeting could be scheduled to see if the City of Onaway could afford another officer.

Commission member Bernie Schmeltzer was questioned about an advertisement placed in the Onaway Outlook to hire an officer.

?Chief Gibson was given the okay to place the ad as a feeler, to see what kind of response they would get,? said Schmeltzer.

The budget meeting took place on January 9 at which time there was a lengthy discussion on the topic.
