Donald “Don” Marx

Donald “Don” Marx, 91, of Summerfield, Florida, formerly of Rogers City, passed away Monday, September 26, 2022 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.

He was born October 3, 1931 in Adrian to Martin and Gladys Marx. Don married Cathy Svenson October 12, 1957 at Hope Lutheran Church in Redford Township. They would have been married for 65 years and Don would have turned 92 October 3.

Surviving are Don’s wife, Cathy; three sons all of Rogers City, Mike (Alison), grandson, Mickey (Samantha), great-grandchildren, Nolan, Lucy, Booker “B”, Jaxson and Greyson, granddaughter, Megan (Erik Fischer), great-grandchildren, Maddie, Mason, Bella and Logan; son Scott (Mary), grandchildren, Sidney and Emily; and son, Chris (Dawn), grandson, Daniel (Leilani), great-children, Violet and Clifford, granddaughter, Chelsea, great-grandson, Aden, and granddaughter, Stephanie. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Adrian Marx.

Don and Cathy had a 27-foot sailboat that they sailed on Lake St. Clair until the day they landed back onshore and the Detroit riots were occurring. They left Detroit and moved to Rogers City and purchased Zgorski-Micketti, Inc. 

Don was an Army veteran and founding member of the Rogers City Optimist Club and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church and blessed with many friends. He also coached hockey for many years and enjoyed watching his boys play hockey and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting at the camp in Ocqueoc. 

On one trip to Arizona they took their granddaughteer, Megan Marx and purchased a 1954 Ford Convertible which resembled the same car Don had courte

d Cathy in Detroit. This car is now  owned by son Chris and is shown in the Rogers City Car Show every year.

In 2012 Don and Cathy moved to Summerfield in a quiet community and were involved with several activities. Don with his hand carved wooden boats and stamp collection and car shows.  After retirement Don and Cathy moved to Grand Lake and purchased a motor home where they put 230,000 miles traveling to Alaska, all of Canada, Mexico and South America.

A private service will take place at a later date.
