The Rogers City wrestling team traveled to the six-team Roscommon invitational Saturday and went 3-2 in the dual meet format of the tournament. The Hurons defeated Grayling, Manton and Houghton Lake before falling to Essexville-Garber, by one point, and Roscommon.
?We started off very aggressive against Grayling but for whatever reason we seemed to wear down as the day went on. I though we wrestled well and showed good sportsmanship all day. I am proud of them, they wrestled hard all day,? said coach Pat Lamb.
Devin Pommerenke (285) was the lone undefeated Huron on the day going 5-0 winning all of his matches by pin. Pommerenke was selected as the upper weight Most Valuable Wrestler as voted by the coaches for his efforts.
Five Hurons were 4-1 on the day, including freshman Joey Sobeck (103) recording four pins before he found himself on the losing end of a 2-1 match against Roscommon. Sophomore Keegan Urban (130) wrestled tough all day with his only loss being a 3-2 decision.
Junior Cameron Wilk (125) started his season with a vengeance going 4-1 on the day. Fellow junior Ben Tulgestke was also 4-1 at 152 pounds.
