Kenneth “Ken” Elroy Ohlrich

Kenneth “Ken” Elroy Ohlrich, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away November 28, at the age of 94.

He enjoyed one last Thanksgiving meal surrounded by his loving family and friends and then left this world with the same quiet strength, that defined his life.

Born February 6, 1931, in Rogers City, and lived a long life shaped by resilience, hard work, and an unwavering sense of independence. He held firmly to the values he believed in with a strong desire to see all his children and grandchildren achieve a higher education.

Ken spent his early years serving in the United States Air Force as a radio operator, an experience that gave him an abundance of exciting stories and fond memories. After completing his service, he moved to Detroit, married Frances Settepane, raised four children and went on to work as a machinist for various companies as well as General Motors Co., where he spent the bulk of his career. He lived a quiet, steady life and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and enjoyed his daily long walk through his neighborhood.

He took comfort in the familiar bonds of family, and enjoye

d spending time with his four brothers and five sisters over the years, sharing the kind of connection that only siblings truly understand.

Later in life, in 2013, he met Dee Todd, his companion, with whom he shared many happy years. Her company brought comfort, routine and steadiness during his final chapter.

He is survived by his children, Sheree (Jay) Thibault, Eric Ohlrich and Lisa (Tom) Weller; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, each of whom carries their own memories and reflections of him.

May he rest in peace in the company of his wife, Frances and his daughter Michele.

A military ceremony will be held to acknowledge his life and the part he played in the family’s story. Ceremony to be performed at the Great Lakes National Cemetery with date and time to be announced.
