Onaway moves on as RC and Posen fall in districts




The Onaway Cardinals will have their season extend to the district championship Friday at 7 p.m. in Onaway. The girls’ basketball team defeated Posen 42-26 while Inland Lakes got by Rogers City 63-22 to set up the championship game on the Card’s home floor.
In the first game of the evening, the Hurons led throughout much of the low-scoring first quarter before Inland Lakes got it going. The Bulldogs led 10-7 after the first quarter and extended it out to 25-10 at halftime.
Freshman guard Natalie Crawford led the Hurons with 12 points while senior Chelsea Myers closed out her basketball career at RCHS with six points, the final points coming on 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Ava Bedford and Chloe Robinson each had 14 points for Inland Lakes.
In the second game of the evening, Onaway locked down the Posen offense, never surrendering double digits in any quarter. The Cards led 16-8 after the first quarter and grew that into a 27-14 lead at halftime.
Marley Szymoniak led Onaway with 20 points with Maya Shimel adding six. Ella Hincka scored eight for Posen and MaKinzee DeFisher added six for the Vikings.
