Robert “Bob” Albert Selwa Sr.
Robert “Bob” Albert Selwa Sr. was born August 27, 1941 in Detroit, to Watson and Frances Selwa. Robert, who resided in Detroit and recently Livonia, passed away September 20 at the age of 85.
Robert is the beloved husband of the late Jane Selwa, celebrating 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2021. They traveled together throughout the United States, but especially loved spending time in and around Presque Isle County with friends and family.
He was the loving father of the Robert Selwa Jr. and Ann (Don) Nakic, and dearest grandfather of Thomas and Nicholas Nakic.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Alice Zegarski and many other loving family and friends. Robert grew up in East Dearborn, graduated in 1959 from his much-loved Fordson High School. He graduated from University of Michigan with master’s degree in journalism. He was an exceptional journalist at The Dearborn Guide, Livonia Observer, Birmingham Eccentric, and ultimately at The Macomb Daily for 36 years garnering an award for Best News Reports and Best Agricultural Award. His articles focused on local history, heritage and highlights.
During postretirement he continued his passion for journalism through article submissions to the Presque Isle County Advance. Robert was an active member of Rotary and Knights of Columbus, along with church service as lecture and usher throughout Detroit area. His hobbies included daily journaling, woodworking, card games and playing pick-up baseball games. He was a lifelong devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers.

A Mass of the Resurrection is at Church of the Divine Child in Dearborn with interment at St. Hedwig Cemetery today (September 24). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, The Humane Society and/or the World Central Kitchen.
