UPDATED: Conditions of Monday morning US 23 accident victims improving

Three Presque Isle County residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning near Rogers City. Central dispatch received a call of a personal injury accident at 8:15 a.m. Monday on US-23 near the Presque Isle County Road Commission garage.

Investigation shows that Laura B. Partyka, 19, of Rogers City was traveling southbound on US-23, two-tenths of a mile south of Airport Road, when she lost control of her vehicle on the snow-covered road. Her vehicle slid into the northbound lane into the path of a vehicle driven by William P. Scott, 72, of Millersburg. Scott was unable to avoid the collision, striking Partyka?s vehicle on the passenger side of the vehicle, where it then rolled and ended up resting on its top. Sandra J. Scott, a passenger in the Scott vehicle, was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by the Rogers City Fire Department.

Partyka was transported to Alpena General Hospital where her condition has been upgraded from critical to serious. The Scotts were transported to Cheboygan Memorial Hospital. Sandra Scott was transferred to Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Her condition was reported by hospital officials as fair. William Scott was treated and released.

The Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department was assisted at the scene by the Rogers City Police Department, Rogers City Fire Department, Case Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Allied Ambulance, and Onaway Area Ambulance.
