Accident claims life near Onaway Sunday on M-68

A 64-year-old Onaway woman lost her life in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening on M-68 in Allis Township. The Presque Isle County Sheriff?s Department received a 911 call at 7:39 p.m. of the head-on crash one-tenth of a mile east of Countyline Road.

A vehicle driven by Doris Bailey of Onaway was westbound on M-68 when she lost control, crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle driven by Deborah Hayner, 47, of Atlanta. Bailey was transported to Northern Michigan Hospital where she later died because of injuries sustained in the accident.

Hayner was transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Cheboygan where she was admitted and listed in fair condition. Passengers in the Hayner vehicle included Mary Arntz, 70, of Onaway and Erin Schoolcraft, 7.

They were transported to Northern Michigan Hospital where Arntz was listed in fair condition. Schoolcraft remains hospitalized, but no information was available on her condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
