North Star League track meet reaps personal rewards for some
Although the final team results for the North Star League meet had Fairview in first place for both boys? and girls? teams, Posen placed fifth for the girls (46) and sixth for the boys (18). It?s pretty hard to get enough points to place high at track meets with such a small team, but Posen competitors continue to chalk up some numbers that are quite impressive.
Once again, state qualifier Amanda Pieczynski, only a sophomore, claimed first place in the 100-dash (13.05), first in the 200-dash (26.98) and second in the 400-dash (1:01.95) just split seconds behind Fairview?s Jackie Spencer (1:01.75). Rachel Beach, Megan Pieczynski, Jill Krajniak, and Amanda Pieczynski took third in the 800-relay (2:00.02), while Beach, Amanda Swan, Krajniak, and Amber Budnik were fourth in the 3200-relay (12:44.68). Beach, Megan Pieczynski, Krajniak, and Budnik took fourth in the 1600-run 5:30.90), while Beach, Megan Pieczynski, Krajniak, and Swan took sixth in the 400-relay (1:00.55).
Swan was fifth in the 800-run (3:10.04), and Budnik took sixth in the shot put (24? 3.75?). Team placement for the girls was Fairview first with 183 points followed by AuGres (119), Mio (87), Atlanta (47), Posen (46), Hale (29), and Hillman (6). In the boys? events, Aaron Hincka once again continued to aggravate opponents with his impressive might, placing second in the discus (122? 6?) just a smidgeon behind Fairview?s Robert Mallett?s first place throw (122? 6.5?). Hincka also took sixth in the shot put (35?). Curtis Beach placed third in the 800-run (2:12.11), while Apollo Schuch took fifth in the 300-intermediate hurdles (48.20), and James Sobek placed sixth in the long jump (17? 06.50?).
MEMORIAL DAY the Vikings traveled to Fairview for the Meet of Champions, and both boys and girls placed sixth in a field of seven teams. In the men?s results, Hincka took first in the discus (126? 11?), and fifth in the shot put (38? 01?). Schuch too
Amanda Pieczynski will be Posen?s lone competitor at the state finals in three events, the 100, the 200, and the 400-meter dashes, Saturday at Grand Rapids.
