Konieczny named NSL co-MVP

Eight spots on the North Star League first-team all conference team were filled by members of the 10-1 Posen Viking football team.

Senior Josh Konieczny was named all-conference first team on offense and defense and earned co-most valuable player honors with running back Tim Smith from Atlanta.

Konieczny also was a Class D all-state honorable mention on offense. He rushed for 1,290 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Senior Paul Romel, junior Russ Kamyszek, and junior Ron Kroll join Konieczny on the defensive NSL first team.

Junior Jesse Romel and senior linebacker Tom Romel were honorable mentions on defense.

VIKING FOOTBALL coach Glenn Budnick believes Tom Romel and senior J Richards should have been named to the first team.

?They deserved to be on there,? said Budnick.

Romel was Posen?s leading tackler with 153. Nearly 100 of them were solo tackles. Richards was fourth in tackles with 81 and didn

?t make first team or receive an honorable mention.

Budnick said changes need to be made in the way post-season selections are made.

The announcements should be sooner; this year?s votes were tallied November 13, three weeks after the regular season ended. And, the coaches need to meet face-to-face to make their selections, Budnick said.

Tom made first-team for his performance on the offensive line along with center Paul Romel.

EARNING HONORABLE mention honors on offense were sophomore quarterback Matt Ponik, tight ened Dale Lewandowski, tackle Jeremy Chojnacki, and fullback Ron Kroll.

Senior Ryan Misiak was a first-team pick on special teams.
