OHS Cross country team opens season at Central Lake, Inland Lakes

The Onaway High School cross country squad opened its season August 24 with a meet at Central Lake.

Joe O’Bradovich paced OHS, finishing 13th among the 113 runners in the boys’ race. Morgan McLean was 22nd, Seth Satchwell was 28th, Preston Badgero was 34th, and Cameron Horn was 39th.

Claire Bastian finished 22nd among the 97 runners in the girls’ race. Hannah Materna was 24th and Kate Olmstead was 25th.

Two days later, the Cardinal runners competed at a meet at Inland Lakes, with the boys finishing second as a team, just five points behind the host Bulldogs. The girls did not have enough runners to compete as a team.

Joe Traynham finished third among the 46 runners in the boys’ race. McLean was ninth, O’Bradovich was 12th, Badgero was 17th, and Satchwell was 19th.

Bastian finished eighth among the 37 runners in the girls’ race, with Materna taking 13th.

Coach Marty Mix said he was pleased with the early performances, and said the number of runners would increase with school now underway.

The cross country squad will run Tuesday at Cheboygan and next Saturday at Rogers City.
