Hincka moves to sixth on Huron scoring list

The North Star League honored two Huron boys’ basketball players recently. Senior Alex Hincka made the second team all-conference while junior Matt Altman earned honorable mention.

Hincka capped a fine basketball career by scoring 292 points in 16 games (18.3 per game) played this season to lead the team. That gave him 945 for his career, good for sixth on the all-time Huron scoring list, just two points behind Mark Belusar’s 947.

The 6-foot 3-inch center also led the team with 190 rebounds, good for 11.9 per game. He also had 39 steals and 36 assists.

Altman, a guard, had a strong season tying for the team lead with 48 steals, along with senior Josh Belusar. Altman ranked second on the team with 131 points, good for 6.9 points per game, while dishing out 55 assists and snaring 42 rebounds.

Belusar, a two-year starter averaged 3.8 points per game while grabbing 70 rebounds and racking up 33 assists. The squad featured nine juniors. The team finished the season with a 9-11 record, giving a good battle to highly-ranked Hillman in the district tournament. Coach Jesse Streich’s coaching record is now 50-92 in seven seasons, including three district championships, won in his first three years in charge. He served as assistant coach on a district championship team under head coach Tom Adrian the year before he took the head coach position.
