Gary W. Schulwitz

Gary W. Schulwitz, 70, of Rogers City passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Saginaw December 27, 2016. He was born August 15, 1946 in Rogers City to Royal and Geraldine (Radka) Schulwitz.

Gary graduated from Rogers City High School in 1964. He served in the Calvary Division of United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart Ribbon for injuries received. On November 6, 1971 he married Marsha Modrzynski, and then they remarried each other on July 14, 2007 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gary retired from the State of Michigan where he had worked as a counselor in the Unemployment Office.

He enjoyed hunting, reading and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Schulwitz is survived by his wife, Marsha; three children, Steven (Andrea) Schulwitz of Alpena, Brad Schulwitz of Hillman and Pennie (Allen) Hoeft of Rogers City; five grandchildren, Amanda, Quintin, Jade, Caitlynn and Ava; and a sister, Carole (Dave Giorgis) Cruickshank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Geraldine and a grandson, Vinson.

Friends may visit at St. John Lutheran Church today (Thursday)  from noon through time of service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Voigt officiating. Rogers City Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 607 will offer a military tribute immediately following church services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran School in memory of Gary Schulwitz.
