Robert Virgil Cornwell Sr.

Robert Virgil Cornwell Sr., 81, of Rogers Township passed away April 8, 2017 at home. He was born October 12, 1935 in Detroit to Virgil and Mary (DuVall) Cornwell.

Robert married Katherine May Fleming July 31, 1955 in Alpena while serving in the Michigan National Guard. Following his retirement from General Motors Corp., they moved up to Rogers City in 2001. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, square dancing and calling, painting, carving wooden walking sticks and taking walks in the woods. A memorable time in his life was when he played Earl Young in the documentary “The Wizard of Boulder Park.”

He is survived by his wife, Katherine; two children, Debra (Mike) Kehrer of Westland and Robert (Julie) Cornwell Jr. of Highland; five grandchildren, Crisandra Welch, Robert Welch Jr., Ezra Roth, Emily Cornwell and Michael Kehrer Jr.;
two great-grandchildren, Dillion Welch and Aiden Kehrer; two stepbrothers, David (Joyce) Cornwell and
Delbert Cornwell; and a stepsister, Diane (Joe) Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Elvina and Dorothy; and his canine friend, Rocky.

A memorial service will take place downstate at a later date.
