William Phillips “Phil” Petz

William Phillips “Phil” Petz, 76, of Rogers Township passed away May 29, 2018 at home. He was born November 21, 1941 in Northville to William and Barbara (Phillips) Petz.

Phil enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He represented the U.S.A. in the Allied Shooting Competition and took first place. He re-enlisted and served in Vietnam. Phil was a lifelong outdoorsman. He was self-employed as a captain of his fishing charter service out of the port at Rogers City. He also guided bear, deer and rabbit hunts. When he wasn’t busy with those outdoor activities you could find him walking his trap lines.

Phil is survived by his wife, Lisa; two daughters, Tamara (Chris) Wood of Placitas, Florida and Sh

annon (Carl) Wenzel of Rogers City; grandchildren, Tara (Scott) Spillane, Autumn Sides, Craig Sides, Jessica Srebnik and Emily Nowicki; a great-grandson, Ethan Spillane; two sisters, Barbara (Tom) Kreager of New Haven, Indiana and Jennifer (Randy) Smolinski of Rogers City; two brothers-in-law, John Leszinske of Rogers City and Jeffrey (Barbara) Millward of Columbia Station, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Lyn Petz of Astor, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Barbara; an infant daughter, Shelley; a brother, Joel; and a sister, Margaret “Peg” Leszinske.

Memorials may be given to McLaren Homecare and Hospice in memory of William Phil Petz. Private services will take place at a later date.
