Edna B. Hillis

Edna B. Hillis, 89, of Tower, died at Golden Beach Manor in Ocqueoc Friday October 9, 2020.

The daughter of Archie and Martha (Sands) Whitman, Edna was born in Tower June 8, 1931.  Blessed with 40 years of marriage at the time of his passing, Edna married Frank Hillis in Port Huron June 17, 1950. He preceded her in death January 21, 1990.

Edna worked for Hi-Q in Pellston and Circuit Control in Harbor Springs and Cheboygan.  After retiring, Edna babysat for children in her home.  Devoted to her Christian faith, she was a longtime member of Community of Christ Church in Onaway.   A regular at the Onaway Senior Center, every day, promptly at 4 p.m., Edna would head to town to join her friends for dinner and socializing.  She looked forward to the afternoons at the center, rarely missing a day.

Edna enjoyed doing embroidery, was an avid reader, and enjoyed watching her game shows, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”  She loved to go dancing and always had music playing with country music and Elvis being her favorites.  In fact, Edna loved everything Elvis and through the years accumulated quite a collection of Elvis memorabilia.  A memorable trip for Edna was a visit to Graceland with her daughters. Besides her Elvis collection, she had a large collection of chicken items, which were displayed and decorated her kitchen.

Edna is survived by her son, Jerry (Sally) Hillis of Onaway; three daughters, Linda (Gary) Prow of Onaway, and Vicky Covell and Sharron (Rich) Miles, both of Tower; as well as 14 grandchildren, Jeanie Korde, Eric (Tanya) Hillis, Kathy (Jimmy) Beebe, Gary (Kathy) Prow, Ronald Covell, Sherry Miles, Kevin (Shemayne) Prow, Tracy Prow (Duane Bishop), Jerry Hillis Jr., St

evie Hillis, Richie Miles, Derek Walters, Nathan (Chelsea) Hillis and Nicole (Josh) Leonard; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Edna in death were her husband, Frank; a daughter, Sue Richey; a sister, Wilma Wahlers; her brothers, Oscar and Hayden Whitman; a stepsister, Rebecca Libby; and her parents.

Visitation was October 13 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Chagnon Funeral Home.  The Rev. Marcia Pauly officiated. Edna’s final resting place was in Tower at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
