Stephen “Steve” Raymond Hein

Stephen “Steve” Raymond Hein of Hawks, died in Christ Monday, December 21, 2020.  Steve was born to Wally and Margaret Hein November 8, 1948. He married Judy (Judge) June 30, 1973 and recently married Althea (Luebke) February 28, 2020. 

Steve served his country as a young man in the Army. He loved the outdoors, singing in the church choir and playing with his grandkids. Since his retirement from Michigan Limestone (formerly Calcite), you could usually find Steve taking walks through the woods and feeding his ever-growing flock of turkeys, deer and other wild birds. 

Perhaps his favorite title achieved in life was as a volunteer aid in the preschool program at St. John Lutheran Church and School.

Steve was preceded in death by both parents and his first love, Judy.

de Althea and her children Leo Luebke and Annette Cherrette; a son, Matthew Hein (Jennifer) of Swartz Creek; a daughter, Michelle Koss (Tim) of Auburn Hills; siblings, Ed Hein (Lois), Clifford Hein (Sharon), Jeanette Pugh and Jeff Hein (Barb); six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. 

A private funeral with immediately family took place in keeping with state regulations, to keep Steve’s loved ones safe during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Online condolences may be sent to www.hentkowskifuneral.com.       

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Steve’s name may be made to St. John Lutheran Church and School or Peace Lutheran Church.
