Roger D. Hein

Roger D. Hein, 82, of Rogers City passed away unexpectedly at home May 1, 2021.

He was born November 13, 1938 in Metz to Harry and Irene (Richard) Hein.

Roger began his sailing career on the Great Lakes as a deckhand in 1957.

He retired as a captain in 2001 after almost 45 years of faithful service.

On July 21, 1989 he married Sharon Bellmore in Rogers City.

He enjoyed playing spitzer, cribbage, visiting with friends at the TNT, and spending time hunting with his grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; seven children, DeWayne (Dawn) Hein of Clinton Township, Kelly (Brian) Hobbs of Oregon, Vicky (Bill) Westrick of Ray, Arthur Hein of Colorado and Joshua Hein of Colorado, and Robert Wolgast and Eric Wolgast both of Rogers City; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Tom (Ann) Hein, Mary Jane (David) Fricks, Sue (Jeff) Krueger, Connie (Jonas) T

aratuta, David Hein, Peggy (Jack) Conners and Bob (Lauren) Hein; and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Irene; his first wife, Diane; two sisters, Yvonne Wagner and Judy Oliver. 

Friends may visit at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Friday, May 7, from 9 a.m. through time of his memorial Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rolando Silva officiating.

Inurnment will follow at St. Dominic Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to a charity of your choice.
