Sidney “Sid” Dale Preston

Sidney “Sid” Dale Preston, 84, of Onaway, passed away in peace December 17, 2021.

Sometimes when people speak of a man and the life he led, many thoughts fall back to a surface of easy pleasant memories. It’s a momentary comfort, too often fleet in the mind and shifting with unpredictable weight. The same cannot be said for this man. If you knew Sid Preston, you know that no greater example of strength existed against a single life lived with such true determination and grit. These reflections are everlasting.

He embraced a ceaseless pursuit of knowledge born out of natural curiosity, and held a youthful playfulness that refused to yield even when faced with devastating darkness. For those where love carried his heart, he’d barehand a freight train before it had a chance to touch you. This

is not only the greatest property a man can possess in his life, it resides as humankind’s most beneficial trait, and that is the protector. I am my father’s son, and that example is everlasting.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy of Onaway; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Charley Badgero of Onaway; and sons, John Preston of Onaway and Tony (Sue) McQuaid of St. Ignace; a grandson, Preston Badgero of Lewistown, Montana; and a brother, Homer Preston of Millersburg. Sid was preceded in death by his brothers, Forest “Red,” Don, Ray, Lyle and Jerry Preston; and a sister, Glenda Turcott.

At this time Sidney will be honored by his family privately.  A memorial will be held in the spring.  Cremation arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.
