Carl Thomas Clark

Carl Thomas Clark, 78, of Onaway, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 15, 2022. Born in Oak Park, Illinois February 13, 1944, he was the son of Daniel and Ruby (Flatt) Clark. As a young man, Carl enlisted in the United State Marine Corps where he served with honor for nearly 10 years. His time in the service of his country included a tour of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War as well as several duty stations throughout the United States, including Hawaii. It was while he was stationed in Beaufort, South Carolina that he married the love of his life, Anna Sue Lykins.

After his time with the Marine Corps, Carl began his career as a truck driver. Upon retiring, after many years of over-the-road trucking, Carl and Anna spent the next couple of years traveling in their camper.  Between his years in the military, his trucking career, and his travels with Anna, Carl was able to visit every state except Alaska.

He and Anna especially enjoyed spending the winter months in the warmth of the Texas sun and their summers camped on the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. When they were ready to put their roots down again, Carl and Anna moved from Kentucky to Onaway where they have lived for the past 10 years.

Carl loved feeding the birds and other animals that came into his yard and enjoyed woodworking. Very patriotic, Carl was proud of his service in the Marine Corps.  He was a member of

the Onaway George C. Garms Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5857 and the American Legion Post 317 in Onaway where he previously served as service officer.  Carl was a patron of the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Virginia.

Surviving Carl is his wife of 57 years, Anna Clark; daughter, Jessica Winstead, of Onaway; grandsons, Andy (Katie) Clark of Paducah, Kentucky, Brandon (Elisabeth) Charles, also of Paducah, Kentucky and Hunter Charles (Courtney) Buckman of Saginaw; as well as six great-grandchildren, Kenny, Addie, Claire, Lauralie, Thomas and Grey. Carl was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life and military honors will be held at American Legion Post, 19415 M-68 Highway in Onaway Saturday, June 18 at 1 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Carl to the Onaway American Legion Post 317. Cremation arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.
