Thomas Herbert Allum, D.O.

Thomas Herbert Allum, D.O., 81, of Rogers City, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital, Cheboygan.

He was born March 20, 1942 in Highland Park. He was the oldest child of Herbert Frank of Algonac and Faith Theodora (Jensen) Allum of Onaway. He graduated from Redford High School in 1960 and attended Olivet College where he was president of the Kappa Sigma Alpha fraternity. 

In 1963, he began medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was the Nobel Skull (president) of the Atlas Club.  In 1964, he married Lois Elaine Saarinen in Redford. In 1968, welcomed his first child, Linnea Christine, in Chicago, Illinois. 

He completed his postgraduate training in Saginaw, where he also welcomed his second child, Robert Fraser in 1969. In 1970, he moved his family to Rogers City when he joined the Rogers City Medical Group. He served as a general practitioner retiring after 45 years. He was an avid boater, first with a powerboat and then took up sailing with his family for many years. Upon retirement, he purchased a fishing boat and enjoyed his time on the water in and around the Great Lakes from Rogers City to Wawa, Ontario. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming an Eagle Scout. He loved nothing more

than being a doctor and looking after his patients.   

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois; his brother, Edward (Mary) Allum; his children, Linnea (Menahem) Deitcher and Robert Fraser Allum, D.O. (Amy); grandchildren, Mariah Allum, Lily Deitcher, Leif Allum, Ayla Deitcher, Sarah Deitcher, Nigel Allum and Joseph Deitcher; and nephews, Skip Allum and Dan Allum. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marilyn Allum.

Arrangements are in the care of Hentkowski Funeral Home.

 Celebration of Life will take place June 22, 2024 at 2 p.m. at UpNorth 23 Restaurant and Lounge, Rogers City.
