Patrick “Pat” D. Preseau

Patrick “Pat” D. Preseau, 70, of Onaway, died at home Monday, February 19, 2024. The son of Raymond and Mary (Scott) Preseau, Pat was born in Flint August 4, 1953. He spent his childhood years in Cheboygan and Marquette before moving to Onaway where he lived for most of his life.

A longtime employee of the city of Onaway, Pat worked for the department of public works. A jack-of-all-trades, his job included many duties but mainly he worked as a water services utility technician. He also had a little side business doing odd jobs, yard work, and keeping the grounds at the Onaway United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his side work very much and was especially fond of his customers.

To merely say, Pat cared deeply for people, animals, and the outdoors would be an understatement, as he proved this day in and day out in the way he lived his life. He found joy in helping others and was quick to say hello, strike up a conversation, or give a big hug. He had a special place in his heart for animals. He enjoyed feeding the birds, deer, and any other creatures who wanted a meal. And of course, he loved his fur babies. He and Linda’s assortment of dogs were his family and he adored every one of the entire pack.

Pat lived life to the fullest and loved an outdoor adventure. He was an avid fisherman, deer hunter, skier, rider, and ballplayer. He fished in bass tournaments and went on fishing trips with his buddies to the Two Hearted River. He enjoyed everything about northern Michigan deer season…the preparation, the anticipation, the camaraderie, and the buck pole, not to mention the fabulous hunting stories which he was known to tell a few himself. This past November, Pat was proud to have bagged himself a dandy 9-point buck. His other outdoor hobbies included downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and riding his Harley-Davidson. He skied with his wife, Linda and his late brother-in-law, Dave. He enjoyed all-day snowmobile safaris with friends and long rides on his motorcycle. A few years back he and his brother-in-law, Ray, rode their bikes out West to visit family. Pat and his brother, Mike, played men’s softball together, playing in numerous tournaments throughout the state.

A man of faith, Pat was a devoted member of the Onaway United Methodist Church and loved his church family. Social and very friendly, Pat will be remembered for his gift of gab. He loved to talk to everyone, often sharing one of his many fishing or hunting stories, leaving his listeners wondering if his tales were true, as Pat tended to enhance some of his stories! He certainly could spin a yarn and there are enough of his little sayings, “Patisms,” to write a book.

Pat leaves his wife, Linda, who he married 46 years ago August 27, 1977; a sister, Penny Ann Preseau and brother, Michael (Lynne) Preseau, both of Onaway; as well as his four dogs. He is also survived by

his mother-in-law, Virginia Malone; a sister-in-law, Lisa (Pat) Waite; and brothers-in-law, Ray (Sharyn) Malone and Steve (Carol) Malone; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Preseau Jr.; a father-in-law, Harley Malone; and a brother-in-law, David Malone.

Pat will be honored by his family privately. His family suggests that memorial gifts be made in support of Hospice of Michigan. Checks can be mailed to Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada, MI 49301 or online at www.hom.org/donations.

Please indicate the gift is being made in memory of Patrick Preseau on the memo line of the check. Cremation arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.
