Patti Jane Merchant

Patti Jane Marchant, a dreamer with a heart as vast as the skies she loved to gaze upon, a beloved sewist, teacher, kitchen dancer, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully January 18, 2025, at the age of 72. Patti was a beacon of love and creativity, leaving behind a legacy stitched together with warmth, humor, and unyielding devotion to family and friends.

Born August 13, 1952 to Barbra Jane and David Merchant, Patti spent her life bringing joy to others through her artistry, teaching, and unshakeable kindness. Her skill as a sewist turned fabric into masterpieces, creating treasures that will be cherished for generations. As a teacher, she imparted wisdom with patience and encouragement, always inspiring those around her to strive for their best. A natural-born nurturer, Patti had a gift for making anyone feel at home. She danced her way through life, especially in the kitchen, where laughter and music often accompanied her lovingly prepared meals.

Patti is survived by her devoted brother, David Merchant; and her caring sister, Marjorie Merchant. She was the proud and loving mother of seven children, Dennis Michael, Matthew Merchant, Melissa Jane McCavitt, Randy McCavitt, Patrick McCavitt, Desiere’ McCavitt and Christianna Blyss Merchant-Minier. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Derek Michael, Devin Michael, Destiny Michael, Kaleb Merchant (deceased), Megan Merchant, Madison Merchant, Michael Merchant, Zeke Merchant, Ayla McCavitt, Stevie McCavitt, Natalie Hogan, Chloe Jane-Renae Hogan, Jase Hogan, Kennedy Hogan, Parker McCavitt, Lyric McCavitt, Elliot McCavitt, Simon McCavitt, Denny Rigot, Grayson Merchant and Daniel Williams; and her great-grandchildren, Angie Michael, Nick Michael, Oliver Forster, Riley Forster and Alice Forster.

Patti was a dreamer who saw possibility in every moment, a creator who turned vision into reality, and a caregiver who filled lives with warmth. Her home and heart were open to many children over the years, whom she lo

ved as her own. Her life was a tapestry of care and compassion, woven with threads of selflessness and generosity.

Patti’s love extended beyond her human family to her loyal canine companions, Koda and most recently Augie, and her many beloved birds, who filled her days with joy and her home with song.

Patti will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her vibrant spirit, enduring wisdom, and tender love will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends. While her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.

The family asks that acts of kindness be done in Patti’s memory, spreading the warmth and love she so effortlessly gave. Family and friends are invited to honor her memory with stories, laughter, and, undoubtedly, a little dancing on her Facebook page.
