Geraldine Louise Karsten
Geraldine Louise Karsten passed away peacefully February 16, 2025, in Alpena, at the age of 84. Born September 24, 1940, in Rogers City, she was the beloved daughter of Everett and Louise Schlager.
Geraldine’s academic foundation began at St. John Lutheran School in Rogers City. After high school, her adventurous spirit then led her to the bustling streets of Los Angeles, where she took pride in her role as a secretary at the Hollywood Police Precinct.
Upon returning to her roots in Michigan, Geraldine was the office manager for WHAK Radio, which she was very proud of. When the family business began, she worked many years alongside husband Jim.
She loved her cottage at Lake Nettie, where she spent many joyous summers enjoying the tranquility of the lake setting. A consummate hostess, she relished the opportunity to throw a good party. Her cooking was the highlight of many gatherings. Her home was always open. Her hospitality knew no bounds.
As a member of the Ladies Aid at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Geraldine’s faith and compassion shone brightly. She also served as a gracious Newcomers Club Hostess, welcoming many into the community with open arms. Her involvement with the Zonta Club, Hospital Auxiliary, Pinocle Club and Nickel Club further illustrated her dedication to civic engagement and her desire to make a positive impact on those around her.
Geraldine’s legacy is carried on by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald Tulgestke, Louise and Everett Schlager; and her son, Jon Karsten. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband of 64 years, James Karsten; sons, G
Geraldine is at McWilliams Funeral Home where family will accept friends and visitors Friday, February 21, from 2 until 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, February 22, at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 p.m. with the Rev.
