Helen Grace Micketti
In February 1946 a recently discharged U.S. Navy veteran in uniform entered the office of Rogers City High School looking for his sister Ida. He talked with the senior student who was acting as the secretary for Harry Grambau, the principal.
Her name was Helen Grace Zgorski and his name was Joseph Micketti. That was a Tuesday; the following Friday there was a dance at the high school. Grace and some of her friends were at the dance. Joe attended the dance and asked her to dance. That was the beginning of a romance that continued throughout their life. Helen Grace Micketti died May 7, 2025. She was the daughter of Walter and Wanda (Ardukant) Zgorski and was born May 13, 1928 in Rogers City.
After high school graduation she attended a business school in Bay City, returned and worked in the Presque Isle County Savings Bank and her dad’s plumbing and heating business. In 1960 she and Joe purchased the business from her dad, and she continued to work in the business until it was sold. She continued working in the Presque Isle District Library and at Seconds on Third.
Those who love and miss her include Gerald and his wife Lynn, Kathy and her husband Michael Seguin, Joseph and his wife Jane and Phyllis Micketti, daughter-in-law, wife of Richard (deceased); grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Seguin and Azalea and Autumn Micketti; sisters-in-law, Dollie Micketti and Norma Jean Idalski; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, best friend, lover and the love of her life Joseph; her daughter, Barbara Marie Michetti; a son, Richard; her sister, Alice and her husband Stanley Nasewicz; her brot
Friends may visit at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. through time of her memorial Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Don Geyman officiating.
Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School or Seconds on Third in memory of Grace Micketti.
