David “Dave” Donald Nickel

David “Dave” Donald Nickel, 86, of Rogers City passed away peacefully June 20, 2026. 

He was born December 15, 1939 in Detroit to Donald and Julia (Humeniuk) Nickel. 

Dave grew up in Detroit and married the love of his life, Fran in 1961. They moved to Romulus and raised their three children. Dave followed in his family footsteps and proudly worked for Ford Motor Company. He retired from there in 1992 and then moved permanently to his second home in northern Michigan. Dave kept busy with outdoor activities, bowling, his grandchildren and the city and jazz band. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing his saxophones. David is survived by three children, Michele (Robert) Lyle, Laura Nickel and Craig (Lori) Nickel; companion, Jeannette Pilarski; six grandchildren, Nick Lyle, Ryan Lyle, Lynsey (Donovan) Cavanaugh, Kayte (Matthew) Zamieski, Wayne (Sheila) Gilbert and Jessica Stahl; and a great-granddaughter whom he was most proud of, Dahlia Cavanaugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran; and two sisters, Arlene (Norman) Buschbacher and Pamela Nickel. 

The family will have a private ceremony in August. 

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Michigan or the Rogers City city band.
