You?ll be shivering at the Shivaree
With so much to do, and so many things scheduled for the Black Lake Sturgeon Shivaree people will be shivering but it won?t be from the cold, it?ll be more from the anticipation. Don?t forget your coats, boots, scarf?s, hats and mittens, in case you decide not to participate in one of the many events planned. There is a lot scheduled.
Come out and participate or watch the parade of sleds on the first day. Starting at the intersection of M-33 and M-68, watch the ride or join in. The parade is through town and out to the Shivaree tent, where you?ll find shivering invigorating events going on.
People can choose between, or participate in all of the events such as the sanctioned snowmobile drag races, horseshoe contest, paintball target field, small game and fishing contest, three on three hockey, poker run or maybe you participate in the snow sculpturing contest, and lets not forget the kids games. Events start on February 15, and run through the 16th.

The Black Lake Shivaree began back in the early 60?s but was canceled for several years until 1987 with Mrs. Becki Fisher at the helm. The Shivaree has been a community activity for many years, encouraging tourism as a boost to the local winter economy. The Shivaree began as a celebration of the end of the sturgeon fishing season and has expanded to include snowmobile races, kids games, vendors, fishing contests and horseshoe tournament.
During this two day event as many as 4,000 people have crowded the ice. Reining Sturgeon King is Jason Woiderski, and the Queen is Ann Marie Mushlock.
The King and Queen are chosen by the largest sturgeon caught, but if a female doesn?t participate or doesn?t catch a sturgeon, then the reining Queen reins until one does.
