Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Weber-Carter
Kathleen “Kathy” Marie Weber-Carter, 86, of Onaway, died at her daughter’s home in Onaway Saturday, November 29, 2025. The daughter of Francis and Martha (Tank) Conway, Kathy was born in Wyandotte September 7, 1939.
Kathy grew up in Ecorse and graduated from St. Anne High School in Detroit in 1957. Her formative years were marked by strong ties to her community and faith that would continue to shape her life. While attending a young people’s group at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor, Kathy met Robert “Bob” Francis Weber. Their friendship developed over time, ultimately leading to their marriage at the same church May 14, 1966. Kathy and Robert Weber settled in Lincoln Park, where they raised their four children together. Their partnership was marked by devotion and love, sharing 43 years of marriage until Robert’s passing October 8, 2009.
After the passing of her first husband, Robert Weber, Kathy found companionship once again with Robert “Bob” Carter Sr. Their paths first crossed at the Onaway Senior Center, a place where Kathy and Bob Weber frequently enjoyed dinners and spent time visiting with Bob Carter and his wife, Vivian. As both Kathy and Bob Carter experienced the loss of their spouses, they formed a bond through shared experiences and mutual support. Their friendship blossomed and April 28, 2012, Kathy and Robert Carter Sr. were married at St. Paul Catholic Church. Together, they enjoyed several years of partnership, providing comfort and companionship to one another until Bob Carter’s passing July 20, 2018.
Throughout her life, Kathy embraced a variety of roles, including her first job in the Bridal Registry Department at J.L. Hudson’s. After marrying Bob Weber, Kathy chose to focus on her family, becoming a devoted homemaker and mother. Creating a warm and loving home and raising her children was always a central part of Kathy’s life, and she devoted herself fully to nurturing her family during those years. Once her children were grown, Kathy returned to the workforce, taking a position with PNC Bank. There, she served in several capacities, but primarily worked as a loan examiner, a position she held until her retirement.
In 2000, after spending 33 years in Lincoln Park, Kathy and Bob Weber made the decision to relocate to northern Michigan. Their move was motivated by a desire to support their family, as they wanted to help care for their granddaughters. They purchased a home on State Street in Onaway, where Kathy quickly acclimated to small-town living and became a familiar presence in town. She formed new friendships and became involved with the Onaway Senior Center where she attended Tai Chi classes and was a regular for Sunday meals. Kathy’s faith remained a central aspect of her life as she joined the parish of St. Paul Catholic Church.
Kathy’s unwavering commitment to her Catholic faith was evident throughout her life. She rarely missed attending church services or observing holy days of obligation, making her faith an integral part of her daily routine. She frequently prayed the rosary and passed on her beliefs as she raised her children in the Catholic tradition. Over the years, Kathy was an active member of several parishes, including St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wyandotte and Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lincoln Park. Additionally, Kathy found inspiration and comfort in watching Catholic programming on EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network).
Kathy’s passion for gardening was evident to all who passed by her home on the main street in Onaway. She took great pride in cultivating both her front and back yards, which burst into color throughout the seasons. In the spring, her beautiful tulips were among the first to bloom and as summer unfolded, roses, hydrangeas and tiger lilies graced her gardens. In addition to her love for gardening, Kathy was a familiar presence throughout the neighborhood, frequently taking walks around town. She often enjoyed these strolls in the company of her walking partner, the late Dorothy Painter.
In recent years, Kathy found joy in using Facebook to stay connected with both longtime and new friends. This platform allowed her to easily keep in touch with friends who spent winters away from Onaway, as well as to reconnect with those from earlier chapters of her life. Kathy cherished the wonderful vacations she shared with her family, creating lasting memories together and enjoyed the experience of traveling by train.
Kathy will be remembered as a devoted wife, a nurturing mother and a wonderful grandmother. Her grandchildren fondly recall times spent together, especially playing video games with her, where moments of laughter surrounded games of Wii bowling and golf. She was also known for her delicious home-cooked meals, with favorites including her tuna noodle casserole, chop suey and potato salad.
Kathy’s generosity, compassion and charitable heart were evident in her constant support of her favorite causes. She consistently gave to charity, embodying a spirit of kindness and concern for others. Her friendly demeanor, warm smile, and unwavering devotion to her faith and family touched all who knew her. Kathy’s legacy of love, faith and selflessness will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
She leaves her son, Stephen F. Weber, of Lake; daughters, Anne Marie (Bob) Bischer, of Onaway, Cynthia A. (Richard) Pool, of Allen Park and Mary Beth Weber of Southgate; grandchildren, Jordan Bischer of Harbor Beach, Rachel Bischer of Onaway and Alexander Pool of Allen Park; as well as her stepdaughter, Bonita “BJ” Carter of Onaway; and two step-grandsons. Kathy was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Francis Weber and Robert Carter Sr.; her brothers, Frederick J. Conway and Joseph G. Conway; a sister, Ellen St. Amour-Ruehle; and her stepson, Robert Carter II.
Visitation was held at Chagnon Funeral Home Tuesday, December 2, from 3 until 7 p.m. with a rosary service beginning at 6 p.m. Kathy’s funeral service was at St. Paul Catholic Church in Onaway Wednesday, December 3, with the Rev. Patrick Maher officiating. Kathy’s final resting place will be in Flat Rock at Michigan Memorial Park.
