Sarah Joan LeCureux

Sarah Joan LeCureux, 79, of Onaway, passed away at her home Friday, January 23, 2026, after many years of declining health. The fifth child of Leonard and Joyce (Freel) Boucher, Sarah was born in Millersburg December 12, 1946. She graduated from Onaway High School in the Class of 1965.

In August of 1967, Sarah married Frederick”Fred” Friday Jr. of Cheboygan. Their union was blessed with three children, Anthony Sean, Todd William and Jessica Ann. Tragically, after only 10 years of marriage, Fred passed away unexpectedly. Despite this hardship, Sarah showed remarkable strength, raising her children on her own. She was deeply grateful to her neighbors, the Ellenberger family, who provided unwavering support and were considered more like family than friends.

Sarah was a dedicated mother, especially involved in her children’s activities when they were growing up. Saturdays often found her in the gym, cheering on her boys during wrestling matches. She was known for always bringing enough treats for everyone, especially her finger Jell-O, which she made for every wrestling meet!

Later in life, Sarah met Bruce LeCureux, and they were married December 19, 1992. With this union, their families were joined, and Sarah embraced becoming a mother to Bruce’s sons, Corey, Tyrone, and Anthony, loving, encouraging, and nurturing them as if they were her own. Together, Sarah and Bruce started PAC Sanitation. Though Sarah did not work as extensively in the business as Bruce, she remained supportive of his efforts and contributed in many meaningful ways.

Sarah enjoyed sewing, gardening and cooking. Her talents in home decorating and her special touch made their house a warm and welcoming home. She sewed much of her children’s clothing, grew her own dahlias, and generously provided food for many. However, there were no guarantees team snacks or meals would be ready on time as Sarah might be recounting stories about her days as Miss Onaway, Queen of the Pines, and her trip to the Michigan State Fair, where she competed for the title of Miss Michigan.

Above all, Sarah cherished her family. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, enjoying every opportunity to spend time with them. Traveling together and attending their sporting events and school activities brought her happiness, just as it had when her own children were young. Staying connected and knowing what was happening in their lives was a source of joy for her.

As Sarah’s health declined, she spent more time at home and bird-watching became a favorite pastime. Despite multiple amputations, she did not let these challenges confine her completely. With the help of her electric scooter, Sarah maintained her independence and continued to enjoy outings to the casino, shopping trips and visits to get her hair done.

Sarah will be remembered for her deep devotion to her family and her incredible strength in facing many challenging times during her life. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 33 years, Bruce LeCureux; daughter, Jessica (Mike) Hale of Onaway; sons, Tony (Desiree) Friday  of Millersburg, Todd (Sally) Friday of Onaway, Corey (Keelie) LeCureux of Bellaire, Tyrone (Shannon) LeCureux of Tower and Anthony LeCureux of Idaho; as well as her grandchildren, Lindsey, Vivian, Henry, Finley Frederick, Casey, Kademan, Carys, Maria, Tyler (Stephanie) and Katelyn (Jesse); and seven great-grandchildren. Sarah also leaves her sisters, Carol Northcott of Onaway and Jean Boucher of Cheboygan; a brother, Ross (Julie) Boucher of Petoskey; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preced

ed in death by her husband, Fred Friday Jr.; her parents, Leonard and Joyce; sisters, Mary Ellen Browning, Ann Gilbert and Judy Hale; a brother, Rick Boucher; a stepsister, Cindy Sabel; a stepbrother, Jack Sabel; and stepfather, Donald Sabel.

Visitation and funeral services were held last week. Interment will be at St. Paul Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.

Those wishing to make a gesture of sympathy are encouraged to consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause that was especially meaningful to Sarah and to which she gave her generous support.
