Susan Jean Pavelec

Susan Jean Pavelec, 75, of Onaway, formerly of Holly, was reunited with the love of her life, John, as she passed away Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Petoskey. She was born in Ferndale January 14, 1951, to Loren Keith and Thelma (Green) Beard. On May 10, 1980, Susan married John J. Pavelec in Utica, and together they shared 41 years of marriage until John’s passing August 29, 2021.

Susan dedicated her career to the field of nursing, serving in a variety of roles throughout Oakland County. Her compassion and commitment made a lasting impact on countless individuals she cared for. Beyond her nursing career, Susan’s desire to help others led her to serve in the Peace Corps, where she spent time in Brazil. 

Susan had a profound love for music, which enriched her life in many ways. Together with her husband John, she frequently attended musical theater performances at Meadowbrook, an experience they both cherished. From her teenage years, Susan was captivated by the music of the Beatles—a passion that endured throughout her entire life.

Known affectionately as the queen of Temu, Susan delighted in sharing small gifts with family and friends. Visiting her home invariably meant departing with a trinket, a tradition she upheld with joy. At family reunions, Susan would bring a large basket filled with doodads, ensuring that everyone left with a special gift, a testament to her generous spirit and love of giving.

Susan’s heart was especially tender toward children and babies, whom she adored deeply. Her affection for them was evident in the way she cared for and interacted with the youngest members of her family and community.

Above all, Susan’s greatest passion an

d hobby was her husband, John. She was devoted to him, and their relationship was characterized by unwavering love and commitment. John brought completeness to Susan’s life, and their bond was continually strengthened through shared laughter, gratitude, support and trust.

Susan is survived by her stepsons, Jeffrey (Debbie) Pavelec and Adam Pavelec; her granddaughter, Brianna Pavelec; her brothers, Larry (Pearl) Beard and Gerald (Terri) Beard; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and her brother, Dr. Loren “Keith” Beard Jr.

A funeral service was held at Chagnon Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
