Josephine “Josie” Gentille Hoffman

Josephine “Josie” Gentille Hoffman, 84, of Rogers City passed away peacefully December 24, 2025 in Fort Pierce, Florida.

She was born February 24, 1941, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to Samuel and Helen Gentille.

Josie was a hard worker from a very early age, a trait that stayed with her throughout her life.

She went on to become a business owner, proudly owning and operating Swans Jewelry and The Cove party store in Rogers City. Josie was known for her strong work ethic, independence and determination.

Josie had many passions. She was an avid reader, a talented and enthusiastic cook, and someone who truly loved sharing meals with her family and others. In the 1970s, she coached a girls’ Little League team in Rogers City. They were known as Josie and the Pussycats!

Above all, Josie was a nurturing and supportive mother who deeply cherished her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories. She enjoyed simple pleasures, like drives down to the local boat harbor, where she could relax and take a nap in her car.

She also enjoyed visits to the casino, and was known for her friendl

y and spunky spirit. Josie loved all dogs and was a friend to every one she met.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Edward B. Hoffman; and her sister, Dolores Zak.

Josie is survived by her two sons, Michael Hoffman of Rogers City (Anastasia) and Eric Hoffman of Livermore, California (Terri); her four grandchildren, Sarah Soptic, Nieden Hoffman, Niya Hoffman and Keane Hoffman; and her great-grandson, Brady Soptic.

Josie’s kindness, warmth, and love for family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. As she would always say, “I’ll see ya when I see ya!”

A private family ceremony will be held to honor Josie’s life.
