Falling for the colors: county and region?s best roads
by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor
Nature?s spotlight has been shining on the stars of fall in northeast Michigan. The sun has provided stunning roadside shows throughout the region at no cost to its residents, unless folks want to gas up their buggy for a fall color tour. In Presque Isle County, from Grand Lake to Black Lake, there is an ever abundance of colorful eye candy to take in.
County residents have their favorite roads they want to get to before the leaves go from being at their peak to their neighbor?s property with the next wind storm. Moltke Township, with its rolling hills, seems to be a popular destination among locals, especially South Angle Road near Knaebe?s Apple Farm, as well Algenstedt Highway.
?THERE IS some beautiful scenery in that area,? said Jerry Wenzel of Rogers City. ?It?s beautiful.? Sharon Meredith and Jan Bellmore agree that the Moltke area always offers some impressive colors. Bonnie Weiler said there are some remarkable colors along M-211 in North Alli
?I like going down I-75 from Indian River towards Gaylord,? said Stanley Gabrysiak of Posen. ?I WENT to Mackinac Island last weekend and the colors on the Island were just beautiful,? said Luanne Bannasch of Rogers City. ? I took a carriage ride way up in the wooded areas and it was very colorful and beautiful.? Anna Mae Wirgau of Hawks enjoys traveling along South Rogers Road in Metz, as well as County Road 638 ?on the way to Millersburg from Hawks, just before you get into Millersburg.? Colors are reportedly going to be at their peak this weekend in northeast lower Michigan.
