Three take first place as team finishes eighth at Hesperia

The Rogers City wrestlers traveled to Hesperia to compete in a dual invitational last Saturday. The Hurons ended up going 1-3 on the day to finish eighth out of 12 teams. Rogers City lost to Kent City 52-22, defeated Rockford B 47-30, and lost to Hart 44-30 and Central Montcalm 57-21.

Three Huron grapplers were 4-0: Dylan Centala, 119 pounds; Mackenzie Grulke, 171 pounds; and Chris Rhode, 189 pounds. Austin Fairbanks at 112 pounds was 3-1 with his only loss coming to a state placer from Hart, 4-0.

Wrestlers with two wins were: Justin Kelley, 125 pounds; Cody Wenzel, 130 pounds; and Tyler Gorlewski, 215 pounds. Winning one match were Brian Krueger (103 pounds), Scott Keller (160 pounds) and Andy Peacock (275 pounds).

HEAD COACH Pat Lamb was not pleased with the outcome. ?I am more upset with myself than I am with the wrestlers,? said Lamb. ?With each new year you have to figure out how to motivate your team to focus and perform at their best level. Although we had some great individual efforts, we didn?t wrestle well as a team. ?We are lacking in the fundamental aspects of the sport, and for that I have to place blame where it belongs, directly on my shoulders,? he continued. ?Maybe all the travel to these tough meets isn?t what this team needs; we spend a lot of time on the road and in hotels and it could be hurting our performance. But the schedul

e won?t change so we?ll have to regroup and see if we can get back to wrestling the Huron way, as a team.?
