Car hits Family Dollar building

Rogers City police officers and emergency medical personnel were at the site of a car vs. building crash in Rogers City. The black Jeep Cherokee hopped the curb in the handicapped parking space and struck the west corner of the Mariners Mall building occupied by Family Dollar store.

The accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

The vehicle involved in the accident was driven by a female,

86, of Rogers City. According to Chief of Police Matt Quaine she was attempting to park her vehicle when she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake causing her vehicle to go over the curb hitting the handicap parking sign and eventually the Family Dollar building.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the crash. The vehicle was undriveable and the building was damaged. Crews from Curtis Excavating were working on the building Friday morning to construct a temporary wall.

Quaine said no citation will be issued and said this is the third crash into the building that he has handled over the years.
