Meeting Minutes

A regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education of the Posen Consolidated School District No. 9 was held Monday, April 18, 2016 in the High School Library.  President Kenneth Wozniak called the board meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Members Present:  Kenneth Wozniak, Dennis Budnick, Danielle Kowalski, Brian Konieczny and Jesse Chappa.

Members Absent: Anna Soik and Andrew Stone.

Also Present: Michelle Wesner, Superintendent/Principal, Alletta Misiak, Recording Secretary.

Visitors: Travis Jordan, Alpena News and Jeremy Styma.

All in attendance stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Moved and supported to accept the minutes of the Regular Meeting (March 21, 2016) as presented.

Ayes: All. Nays:  None. Motion Carried.

Moved and supported to approve the bills for the 2015-2016 school year as presented.

Motion passed by the following roll call vote: Ayes All.

Communications –

Budget Transparency Reporting requirements will be updated within the next two weeks on the school web page.

Audience Participation  – None.

Old Business 

The portable classroom will be moved out by the end of May first part of June.

Administrator’s Report – Mrs. Wesner.

Moved and supported to have the student athlete’s grades reviewed on a weekly basis to make sure that they meet the requirements to participate in sports.

Information Items

The following is a breakdown of the number of students participating in Spring Sports:

Boys’ Varsity Track – 10, Girls’ Varsity Track – 13, Varsity Softball – 11, JV Softball – 12, Boys’ Varsity and JV Baseball 18, Boys’ Junior High Track – 25, and Girls’ Junior High Track 10.

The Staff is currently working on getting the class schedule together for next year along with the school calendar to include 180 instruction days.

Jolene Reese was a winner in the annual Short Story Contest.  A celebration will take place on May 1st at Brush Creek Mill in Hillman.

Moved and supported to hire Mrs. Tanya Strzelecki as Recess Aide replacing Lisa Jakey who has resigned to take on a new job.

A homework lab has been established for the remainder of the school year for all students interested.

As of today we have four students interested in Dual Enrollment for next school year.

Students began testing on Tuesday, April 12.  The M-Step will continue through the month of May while the SAT was started and completed on April 12.  A “kickoff breakfast” was held on Tuesday for the students taking the SAT and PSAT Tests.  The students who took the M-Step Test last year were honored with a dinner and assembly on Wednesday.

All the bus cameras are operational again.

Jeremy Styma and Brian Konieczny spoke about the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Team here at Posen Schools and the Board congratulated them on awards they received at two different conferences. 

Highest Rookie Seed Award – 1st in District and Rookie All Star Award – 1st in Michigan District awards were received at Lake Superior University.  Another award they received at Traverse City was the 2016 Imagery Award – 1st in District.  Jeremy said it is a very good experience for the students as well as good social skills.
