MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ROGERS CITY CITY COUNCIL

HELD IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS ON JANUARY 3, 2017

Mayor Sobeck presided and called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

PRESENT – Adair, McLennan, Nowak, and Sobeck.  Absent:  Bielas.

APPROVAL OF  MINUTES

Nowak/Adair, that the minutes of the Regular Council Meeting of December 20, 2016 be approved as written.

ROLL CALL: Ayes – All, the motion carried.

CITY CLERK’S REPORT:

CHECK AND INVOICE APPROVAL:

McLennan/Nowak, that the following total fund expenditures be recognized as payments made and payments to be made, in the amount of $111,526.94 and the Mayor is authorized to sign the check register.

ROLL CALL: Ayes – All, the motion carried.

MAYOR:

RESOLUTION NO. 2017-1    

Nowak/McLennan, to appoint Alan Gapczynski to the Planning Commission with the term to expire December 2019.

ROLL CALL: Ayes – All, the motion carried.

RESOLUTION NO. 2017-2

McLennan/Adair to appoint Ellen Plank as Planning Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals liaison.

ROLL CALL: Ayes – All, the motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:

PROCLAMATION – HURON VOLLEYBALL DAY

RESOLUTION NO. 2017-3

Nowak/Adair to adopt the following proclamation;

WHEREAS, the Rogers City High School volleyball team recently completed a fantastic season in which it went 35-11-1; and

WHEREAS, the Hurons went undefeated in North Star League play on their way to a conference championship; and

WHEREAS, the squad capped its regular season by defeating Onaway and Posen to claim the Presque Isle County championship; and

WHEREAS, the Hurons then marched through the postseason, winning district and regional titles, as well as a quarterfinal match; and

WHEREAS, the team capped its postseason with a trip to the Class D semifinals in Battle Creek, winning a game on the sport’s biggest stage; and

WHEREAS, throughout its successful 2016 campaign, the Hurons showed tremendous drive, spirit, and sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, the squad’s play shined an extremely positive light on not only the players and coaches, but also on the school and community; and

WHEREAS, this display of excellence should be acknowledged and praised; and

WHEREAS, the team will be honored at a banquet scheduled January 8, 2017;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council

of the City of Rogers City hereby proclaims January 8, 2017 as Huron volleyball day in honor of the team’s accomplishments.

ROLL CALL:  Ayes – All, the motion carried.

CLOSED SESSION:

McLennan/Nowak, to enter into Closed Session to evaluate the City Manager.

ROLL CALL:  Ayes: All, the motion carried and the meeting adjourned to Closed Session at 7:21 p.m. Upon reconvening in public session at 7:32 p.m. no action was taken.

ADJOURNMENT:

Mayor Sobeck declared the meeting adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
