Dean E. Carress

Dean E. Carress, 90, of Millersburg, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Alpena. He was born June 12, 1927 in Detroit, the son of Constantine and Hazel (Cameron) Carress.

Dean is survived by the love his life, Burnetta (Gribben). They were married September 13, 1947 in Hazel Park, and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Dean is also survived by his children, Donna Alexander of White Lake, Jeffrey (Debbie) Carress of Waterford, Tammi (Randy) Sanborn of White Lake and Alison (Dave) Stewart of International Falls, Minnesota; his sister, Virginia Williams of Gibraltar; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Tessman; and two brothers-in-law, Glenn Williams and Art Tessman.

Dean served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a chief petty officer. For more than 40 years, Dean sold heavy equipment for several companies who supplied the auto industry and retired a

s a regional vice president with Pettibone of Detroit.  He enjoyed boating, fishing, and was a member of the Cheboygan Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving as vice commander and flotilla commander. Affectionately known as “Pa,” Dean will always be remembered for his wisdom, incredible wit, and story telling that would leave his friends and family laughing for days.

The funeral service was at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home of Cheboygan Wednesday, September 27, at 1 p.m. with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Burial took place Thursday at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
