Garnet “Gar” Paul Robinson

Garnet “Gar” Paul Robinson, 76, of Rogers City passed away May 17, 2020.

He was born September 5, 1943 in Essex, Ontario, Canada to Paul and Loretta (Boose) Robinson.

Gar graduated in 1961 from Clintondale High School in Mount Clemens.

On April 11, 1964 he married Ingrid Christensen at First Methodist Church in Mount Clemens. He started his law enforcement career in 1966 with the Fraser Police Department. Gar and Ingrid moved to Rogers City in 1971 where he took a position with the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy then a detective. In 1983 he was appointed police chief of the Rogers City Police Department, retiring in 1999. Gar enjoyed camping, Nascar racing, hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family just as much as they loved spending time with him.

He is survived by his wife, Ingrid; two daughters, Laura (Gary) Rhode of Rogers City and Melissa (Justin) Garcia of Bay City; seven grandchildren, Elaina Garcia, Lillian Garcia, Gavin Rhode, Caleb Rhode, Isaac

Rhode, Taylor Rhode and Danielle Rhode; a brother, Kenneth Robinson of Prescott; a sister-in-law, Sharon Robinson of Chesterfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Gar was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Loretta; a sister, Judy Robinson; a brother, Paul Robinson; and his mother and father-in-law, Anna and Philip Christensen.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home today (Thursday, May 21) from 4 p.m. through time of his funeral at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Boerger officiating.

Memorials may be given to Friends Together or a charity of friends’ choice in memory of Garnet Robinson.
