Maria Estelita Fortunata Japitana “Fortune” Brege

Maria Estelita Fortunata Japitana “Fortune” Brege, 61, of Rogers City passed away peacefully at home June 7, 2020 surrounded by her family.

She was born October 24, 1958 in Iloilo City, Philippines to Jose and Estelita (Cruz) Japitana. 

Fortune received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City in 1979. 

Following graduation, she worked as a clerk at Poveda Learning Centre, an exclusive school for girls. On April 15, 1989 she married Owen Brege in the Philippines and eventually moved to Rogers City. Fortune was employed at the Rogers City Subway for the last 25 years. She loved to cook, garden and play bingo. 

She is survived by her husband, Owen of Rogers City; mother, Estelita Japitana; a sister, Jean Japitana; two brothers, Felix (Yolanda) Japitana and Joemarie (Nilda) Japitana; a sister-in-law, Tere

sa Japitana; and many nieces and nephews, all living in the Philippines; a brother-in-law, Neil (Yvonne) Brege of Rogers City; a niece and several nephews; and great-niece and nephew; a special friend and cousin, Ester Erickson of Rogers City. 

Fortune was preceded in death by father, Jose; a brother, Joel; and her mother and father-in-law, LouElla and Richard “Dick” Brege. 

Visitation was at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Wednesday, June 10, through time of her private Mass with a rosary being recited.

Inurnment will take place in the Philippines at a later date.
Memorials may be given to St. Ignatius Catholic School’s Angel Fund in memory of Fortune Brege. Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home.
