Florian “Smitty” Leo Smith

Florian “Smitty” Leo Smith, 73, of Flint passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020. Visitation and rosary were Tuesday, September 29, and Wednesday, September 30, until the time of the Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Flint. Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, September 30, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with the Rev. Roy Horning, celebrant. Interment, with military honors, will be held in the Great Lakes National Cemetery on a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or Holy Rosary Catholic Church, in Smitty’s memory.

Florian was born in Rogers City June 19, 1947, son of the late Edward and Eleanore (Smigelski) Smith. He proudly served his country as an Army medic during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. 

Smitty married Judith “Judy” Ann Lewandowski August 22, 1970 at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Posen. He retired from General Motors-Buick in Flint. 

Smitty was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars South Presque Isle Post No. 7804 and Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He en

joyed fishing, hunting, attending festivals and polka music.  

Smitty is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Judy Smith; two daughters, Margo Ann (Doug) Smith-Joseph and Stephanie Kay Smith; two granddaughters, Quinn Nicole Joseph and Parker Willow Joseph; three siblings, Carol (David) Smrchek, Kathleen Smith and John (Deb) Smith; 10 nieces; five nephews; and many other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eleanore Smith; and a grandson, Aiden Joseph.
