Kerry H. Kuhlow

Kerry H. Kuhlow, 69, of Ocqueoc, died peacefully in his deer blind January 19, 2021. Born in Detroit April 3, 1951, Kerry was the son of Harold and Ruth (Staub) Kuhlow. A machinist by trade, through the years, he worked in several machine shops throughout the state of Michigan. Blessed with 48 years of marriage, Kerry and Donna Lee Tobolski married January 22, 1972 in Detroit. They made their home in Eastpointe before realizing their dream of moving to northern Michigan.  In 1996 Kerry and Donna moved permanently to their home on Lake Huron to enjoy the woods, waters and peacefulness of the north. Kerry was a member of the Cheboygan Fraternal Order of Eagles.

An avid outdoorsman, Kerry enjoyed fishing the small lakes in northern Michigan, but his greatest passion was deer hunting. For years he traveled to Gladwin to hunt on family property with the idea that he would someday have his own hunting land. This past year Kerry found the acreage he had always dreamed of and it was close to home so he could enjoy it as often as he wished.

He would stay for days and sometimes a couple of weeks at a time in his blind where he bagged a 12-point buck in his inaugural season. Kerry was perfectly content to sit for hours in his blind, watching deer, drinking Mountain Dew and eating donuts. He loved campfires, gazing at the stars, and listening to the frogs singing at night. He loved the gentle sound of the water lapping on the shore and grilling juicy steaks on the barbecue for his family.

Kerry was kind, generous, and willing to help anyone in need. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it.

Sometimes he was set in his ways and had a bit of a stubborn streak. He was extremely competitive, loved to win, and didn’t care much for losing.  Whether it was a game of cards or a board game, he was always a worthy opponent with plenty of fun and laughter in every contest. Raised in metro Detroit, Kerry was a sports’ enthusiast. Win or lose, he was a loyal fan and proud of his Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red Wings. He enjoyed traveling with Donna and recently visited Alaska with h

is daughter.

A devoted husband and loving father, Kerry will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna, of Ocqueoc; daughters, Jennifer (William) Spangler of Grand Blanc and Tracy (Jeff) Rutter of Holt; two grandsons, Tyler and Andrew Rutter; a sister, Sharon (David) Couture of Canton; as well as  sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.  Kerry was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sue; and his mother and father-in-law, Lois and Walt Tobolski.

At this time Kerry will be honored privately by his family with a memorial service being planned for a later date. Cremation arrangements were in care of Chagnon Funeral Home.
