Robert Eugene “Gene” LaLonde

Robert Eugene “Gene” LaLonde, 86, of Onaway, passed away from a tragic accident May 8, 2021.

Gene was born April 1, 1935 to William “Jack” LaLonde and Jeanette (McLean) LaLonde. He married Marie Rogers from Onaway.

Gene graduated from Rogers City High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War.  He retired from IBEW and worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. He was also the electrical foreman for the building of the Black Lake UAW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and providing REL tools to his children and grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marie; his children, Roulene Condit, Angie (Bob) Joseph and Denise (Callen) Chapman; his grandchildren, Donia Parr

, Aaron Parr, Levi (Katie) Parr, Colter (Brittany) Chapman, Jenica Joseph, Chanda Chapman, Jaymin (Kate) Joseph and “Johnny Furpaw” (a family joke); his great-grandchildren, Chase Parr, Hattie Stump, Dakota Bates, Rakyah Ryckman, Ellie Parr, Dane Chapman and Emma Parr; and one great-great-grandchild, Neveah Parr.

His living siblings include, Kal Kamyszek, Jerry LaLonde, Mary Ellen Dawson and Suzanne LaLonde. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don, Eddy, Fred and Joe; and sisters, Patricia Piper, Margaret Anne Konwinski and Sally Goupell.  

Gene’s family will receive friends at Chagnon Funeral Home Saturday, May 15, from 1 p.m. until the time of the memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. Gene’s son-in-law, the Rev. Bob Joseph, will officiate.
